Controlled Substances Policy

Geric New Dawn Psychiatry PLLC
At Geric New Dawn Psychiatry PLLC, the decision to prescribe controlled substances is made with careful clinical judgment and in accordance with best practices for patient safety and regulatory compliance. All patients (including parents or guardians of minors) must sign a Controlled Substance Agreement prior to initiating treatment involving these medications.

​Monitoring and Compliance

Patients may be subject to random drug screenings or pill counts at any point during treatment.

Upon notification, patients must present for testing by 5 PM the same day or report to a designated lab at an agreed-upon date and time.

Failure to comply may result in discontinuation of controlled substance prescriptions.

Pharmacy Use

Patients are required to use only one designated pharmacy for all controlled substance prescriptions.

​Drug Screening Requirements

A drug screen may be required prior to initiating any controlled substance and at any time during treatment.

A positive result for illicit substances (e.g., methamphetamine, cocaine) or non-prescribed medications will result in immediate discontinuation of controlled substance prescriptions.

If withdrawal risk is identified, a 30-day transitional supply may be provided.

Patients may continue care with Geric New Dawn Psychiatry for non-controlled medications.

A negative result for a prescribed medication expected to be in the patient’s system may also result in discontinuation of controlled substance prescriptions.
